How is data imported during the migration process?

What is the order of data migration?

The migration tool follows a specific order when importing different types of data. This order is designed to maintain the relationships between entities, ensuring your data is linked correctly on the new platform. The order of data import is as follows:

  1. Taxes
  2. Manufacturers
  3. Categories
  4. Products
  5. Customers
  6. Orders
  7. Reviews
  8. Coupons
  9. CMS Pages
  10. Blog Posts

Please note that the availability of certain data types depends on the source and target platforms. Some data types might not be included in your migration, but the order listed above will remain the same for those that are available.

Why is data imported in this order?

The sequence of data migration is designed to preserve the relationships between your data. For example:

  • Products and categories must be linked correctly.
  • Products and reviews need to stay connected.
  • Customers and orders, as well as orders and products, need to maintain their relationships.

By importing data in this order, we ensure that all entities remain properly connected on your new site, just as they were on the old platform.

How are individual entities within each data type migrated?

For each data type, entities are migrated starting from the oldest (with the smallest ID) to the newest (with the largest ID). This ensures that entities display in the same order on your new website as they did on the old one.

What happens if new data is added during the migration?

At the time the migration is initiated, the system calculates the number of entities to be migrated for each data type. Only entities that exist at the start of the migration process will be imported. If new products or orders are added to your store while the migration is in progress, they will not be included in the current migration.

After the migration is complete, you can perform a Recent Data Migration to transfer any newly added products, orders, or other entities that were created after the original migration began.
