How long does the migration process take?

The time frame for completing a shopping cart migration process depends on several key factors:

  1. Volume of Data:

    • The amount of data being migrated is a major factor. For example, a product with many variants or multiple images will take more time to migrate than a simple product.
  2. Connection Speed:

    • The speed of the connection between your Source Store and our migration system, and from our system to your Target Store, plays a crucial role. Faster connections allow for quicker data transfers.
    • Additionally, the speed between your Source Store and Target Store is important, especially for transferring images, as they will be directly downloaded from the Source Store to the Target Store.
  3. Server Configuration for Self-Hosted Websites:

    • If your website is self-hosted, the configuration of your web server will impact how quickly data can be sent and received (read and written). Optimized server settings can enhance migration speed.
  4. API Rate Limits for Cloud-Based Websites:

    • For cloud-based platforms, the migration speed may be influenced by the API rate limits set by the platform. These limits control how fast data can be transferred through the platform’s API.

Typical Time Frames:

  • On average, our system can migrate around 3,000 simple products per hour between two self-hosted websites under normal conditions.
  • For migrations between two cloud-based websites, the average rate is about 1,000 products per hour due to API rate limits.
  • For migrations between a self-hosted website and a cloud-based website, the average rate is about 2,000 products per hour.

Tips to Optimize Migration Time:

  • Use Background Migration: Running the migration in the background can keep the process moving even if you close your browser.
  • Upgrade Your Target Store: For the Target Store, ensure your current web server or plan is configured to handle high data transfer loads efficiently.
