A standard migration process will consist of 4 steps:
- Install the other e-commerce platform in a subdomain or subdirectory. For cloud-based platforms such as Shopify or BigCommerce, they already have an original domain so you don’t need to use a subdomain.
- Migrate data from your Source store to your Target store.
- Install your desired theme and necessary extensions in the Target store.
- When everything is completed and your Target store is ready to go live, you can change the DNS records to point the domain to your Target store. Enjoy your new store!
*Note:
- In the article, “Source store” is your current website and “Target store” is the new website built on the new e-commerce platform.
- After your new website goes live, don’t forget to check your email and payment settings on the new website to ensure they are functioning smoothly.
- Regularly monitor Google Search Console to ensure old URLs are properly redirected to new URLs on the new website.
